As a Staff Electrical Engineer Lead within the Electrical and Instrument Design Expertise team, you will oversee electrical design activities across all phases of greenfield and brownfield capital projects for BASF Corporation. In this role, you will be responsible for developing project scopes, preparing cost estimates, specifying and procuring electrical equipment, producing construction work packages, ensuring design quality, and providing technical support through startup and commissioning. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external engineering partners to ensure successful project execution that aligns with BASF’s technical standards and business objectives. Requirements

  • Hold a BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Have a minimum of 8 years’ experience in electrical engineering in the Chemicals, Refining or Petrochemicals industry.
  • Have Capital Project execution experience, especially in the Electrical discipline areas.
  • Are proficient with SKM Power Tools for Windows.
  • Have strong interpersonal, communication, and networking skills with ability to lead business development activities along with cross-functional teams and lead workshops.
  • Possess knowledge of electrical expertise (equipment and infrastructure) within industry (chemical preferred).
  • Have prior experience working with Engineering Partners and teams with diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Possess experience in leading efforts to identify and implement electrical improvements in the Chemicals, Refining or Petrochemicals industry.
  • Have strong Customer Focus skills and Entrepreneurial mind set.

Responsibilities

  • Providing technical leadership for the execution of capital projects in chemical and petrochemical environments.
  • Leading development of electrical scope, engineering deliverables, and specifications, including manhour estimates, material take‑offs, power system studies, and equipment selection.
  • Executing and reviewing electrical system studies, ensuring NEC compliance, reliability, and remediation across BASF sites.
  • Preparing cost estimates, performing technical bid evaluations, and supporting procurement activities to secure compliant and cost‑effective electrical equipment.
  • Providing technical oversight during installation, testing, energization, startup, and commissioning, while supporting maintenance activities and troubleshooting construction‑phase challenges.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including operations, maintenance, procurement, project engineering, vendors, and external engineering partners to drive aligned and efficient project execution.
  • Driving innovative, safe, and sustainable engineering solutions that enhance reliability and improve efficiency and predictability within the capital project design process.
  • Communicating effectively across technical and project teams, contributing to project meetings, continuous improvement initiatives, and value‑based engineering discussions.
