We are seeking an Electrical Engineer Intern to join our engineering team. This position is ideal for someone that is entering their Senior year of college who is eager to apply fundamental electrical engineering principles to real-world products and systems. The Electrical Engineer Intern will support design, testing, documentation, and troubleshooting activities under the guidance of senior engineers. As part of our team, you will contribute significantly to the delivery of our award-winning products & services around the world, working to develop new sources of data-driven value for Tennant Company and our customers.

Requirements

  • Completed 2-3 years of Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Strong understanding of basic electrical theory (AC/DC circuits, Ohm’s Law, power, signals)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
  • Familiarity with lab equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope, power supplies)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills

Nice To Haves

  • Internship, co-op, or project experience in an engineering environment
  • Familiarity with CAD or ECAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, Altium, OrCAD, Eagle)
  • Exposure to embedded systems, controls, power electronics, or industrial systems
  • Basic programming or scripting experience (e.g., Python, C/C++, MATLAB)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, and testing of electrical systems, circuits, and components
  • Create and maintain schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Support prototype builds, lab testing, and system validation
  • Collect and analyze test data; prepare reports and summaries
  • Assist with root cause analysis and troubleshooting of electrical issues
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain
  • Support compliance with applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements
  • Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement activities
