For more information visit www.essinc.com. ESS is hiring a motivated, hard-working Electrical Engineer I to join our team. This role will provide entry to mid-level design and support for product and R&D development projects. Focusing on industrial design in harsh environments requires deep knowledge and understanding of system maintenance, ease of construction, and multi-system interactions. This role operates semi-autonomously with a moderate level of supervision and will require strict adherence to safety, regulatory, and operational standards. Ability to work in a team environment is a must. Applicant must be comfortable working in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.

Requirements

  • AS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Experience with reading electrical schematics and mechanical P&IDs
  • Familiarity with the process of building control panels for machine automation
  • Experience with Oscilloscopes, DMMs, Power Analyzers, Signal Generators etc.
  • Familiarity with single and three phase power systems and power distribution systems
  • Familiarity with power conversion equipment
  • Familiarity with computer and micro-controller systems
  • Capability to work on and around industrial power systems
  • Proficiency troubleshooting electronics and electro-mechanical systems down to the component level
  • Ability to work independently and proactively
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a small, dynamic team
  • A strong commitment to quality and continuous improvement is required.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Experience building control panel
  • Experience with battery or fuel cell systems

Responsibilities

  • Ownership ofdesign, modeling, specification, and testing of low to medium voltage industrial electrical equipment.
  • Apply standard engineering knowledge, techniques, and formulae to create and interpret designs, calculations, drawings, sketches, and documents for a complex iron redox flow battery.
  • Support the development of energy storage products by providing core knowledge in one or more of the following areas: AC power(3-phase power, power systems, protection systems, etc.) Electromechanical equipment (induction motors, actuators, VFDs, etc.) DC/DC or AC/DC power conversion(bidirectionalflow, power supplies, etc.) Industrial control systems(slice I/O,HMI,UL508/UL60947, NFPA 79,etc.) Sensors (thermistors, pressure transducers, pH probes, etc.) Develop, write, and perform system tests for debugging to determine design adjustments or modifications.
  • Provide technical assistance to cross functional teams when electrical or general engineering problems arise.
  • Perform technical review of designs and documents
