S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Engineering function. As an Electrical Designer, you’ll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team. S&C is a global provider of equipment and services for electric power systems. Founded in 1911, the Chicago-based company designs and manufactures switching and protection products for electric power transmission and distribution systems. S&C’s Custom Engineering organization designs Engineer-To-Order solutions for a portfolio of products including Manual, Remote Supervisory and Source-Transfer Vista for a wide range of customers including electric utilities and industrial/commercial power users. In this job, you will report to the Manager – Custom Engineering.

Requirements

  • Associated degree in an Electrical Field or equivalent.
  • Experience in design and drafting of electrical schematics and interconnection diagrams for low voltage control circuits is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in the use of CAD systems, preferably Zuken, MicroStation, Solid Edge, or AutoCAD
  • Must be self-motivated, well organized, and skilled decision maker that is comfortable in a fast-paced design and manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical abilities with good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in, or working knowledge of, medium voltage switching, and protection products and systems is not required but is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Designing switchgear control systems and metering circuits to meet specific customer application requirements using S&C automation products
  • Designing panel layouts, wire harness and cable assemblies, and generating Bills of Material
  • Specifying low voltage electrical components including protection relays, RTUs, communication devices, and instrument transformers.
  • Defining requirements and writing custom instructions for production testing of control circuits
  • Generating supplementary instruction sheets that describe the operation of control circuitry.
  • Participating in cross-functional design teams to ensure customer needs are satisfied through high quality product designs that are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Providing support and to act as a technical resource for problem solving activities in both design and production processes
