About The Position

The Electrical & Controls Automation Technician will provide or improve asset and capacity reliability through technical support of the maintenance function, electrical/electronic projects, PLC programming/troubleshooting, and facility's information services. Ability to perform multi-skilled tasks in all aspects of Automation/Electrical or Mechanical Maintenance. Confers with maintenance manager & planner to determine priorities for automation, electrical & maintenance projects. Develops timelines and coordinates with manager or planner before initiating changes that could impact production. Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, lighting fixtures, and control systems. Troubleshoots a variety of systems including electrical, PLC, mechanical, pneumatic & hydraulic. Assists in designing and commissioning of electrical/automation control systems. Discusses malfunction with maintenance technicians to diagnose malfunction using schematics, diagrams, manuals, PLC programs, and appropriate test equipment. Ability to find and utilize external resources. Properly documents all activities and equipment modifications per maintenance department guidelines. Works with maintenance planner and buyer/inventory specialist to track electrical and automation spares and parts supply. Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders. Plans and communicates layout of wiring and electrical apparatus in buildings as assigned. Researches and lays out special projects as assigned. Analyzes and resolves work problems and assists workers in solving work related problems. Maintains time and utilizes company CMMS system to track work and inventory; ensures daily hours are tracked in the CMMS system. Confers with department leadership to coordinate electrical/automation work and Preventative Maintenance of equipment to support production and mitigate downtime. Performs other tasks as instructed by management.

  • Must be able to enter data into existing computer software, following on-screen prompts or written instructions, and use Word Processing and Spreadsheet software.
  • Must be able to work as a member of a team.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, safety instructions, operating instructions, and general work instructions.
  • Must be able to read and interpret electrical/electronic schematics.
  • Must be able to use or learn CAD to keep prints and schematics current.
  • Must have knowledge and experience working with PLC/automation programs.
  • Must be able to develop automation/electrical projects to improve existing systems to include recommending equipment/systems needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrical Maintenance Certification desirable.
  • Siemens & Allen Bradley PLC, C++, and SQL experience desirable.
