We are seeking an Electrical and Electronics Engineer for our Electrical Engineering & Computer Science Practice in Bowie, MD. In this role, you will work as part of a team to help our clients solve challenging technical problems which are often dynamic, high profile, and multi-disciplinary. You’ll be expected to tackle complex technical challenges for clients across diverse fields, including power systems, renewable energy, equipment, electrical practices, control systems, batteries, consumer products, and installations. At Exponent, you will have the ability to define and shape your individual consulting practice based on your skills and interests.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • Hands-on experience with electronics hardware and software development
  • Hands-on experience assessing and troubleshooting electrical systems and components
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to work independently or in multidisciplinary teams and the ability to support multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience designing, constructing, and performing tests in a laboratory setting
  • Ability to gather information and convey technical conclusions to individuals in engineering, business, and related industry
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required

  • Familiarity with electrical safety standards such as the National Electric Code (NFPA 70)
  • Circuit analysis and/or system design

Responsibilities

  • Performing electrical engineering consulting related to ongoing Exponent work to include: completing projects associated with power systems, renewable energy, residential, commercial and industrial equipment; electrical work practices; control systems; battery systems; consumer products; and electrical installations
  • Generating and performing testing protocols in both laboratory and field settings
  • Conducting site inspections to document electrical systems and components to determine their potential involvement in system failures, including fire causation
  • Seeking answers to questions such as why a system malfunctioned, what measures might have prevented problems, and how to enhance the safety of products or equipment
  • Communicating technical information to diverse audiences, including preparation of technical reports and presentations
  • Obtaining a professional license in Electrical Engineering
