If you're driven by the passion to change lives, this is the place for you.Job SummaryThis position is responsible for the safe, reliable operation of Wisconsin Public Service’s distribution system.  This includes initiating corrective actions for system problems, accurately maintaining operating records and recording the system configuration. The EDC ensures work is conducted in a safe manner and in accordance with established policies, work methods, standards and the Protective Card Procedure.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, HSED, or GED
  • Candidates must demonstrate leadership ability, knowledge of electrical theory as it applies to distribution systems, knowledge of utility distribution equipment including system protection devices and an understanding of the occupational hazards associated with distribution system equipment
  • Ability to cope with stressful situations, to make sound operating decisions and to interact effectively with others including governmental agencies and customers
  • Candidates must be proficient at operating a personal computer
  • Successful candidate will be required to complete and pass an in-house training program, approximately 1 year duration
  • This position requires unescorted access to certain critical cyber assets which would require applicants to satisfy all Company and NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection Standard 004 security requirements, which includes a background investigation.
  • Testing RequirementsSystem Operator/Power Dispatch II (SOPD): ability to analyze information and logically derive conclusions, mathematical usage, reading comprehension, ability to monitor multiple tasks simultaneously and move between them to respond as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicates with peers, Customer Care Center, Media Relations, Senior Management, Customer Field Operations, and internal/external customers to meet Company and Business Unit goals.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, diagnose and initiate repairs of distribution system in a safe and economical manner following all protective card, safety rules, and work practice procedures with a sense of urgency and attention to detail.
  • Provides work direction to field resources for planned and unplanned switching and other system activities.
  • Assigns planned switching work to field employees to support construction and maintenance activities as well as to achieve on time switching commitments.
  • Maintains an awareness of weather conditions and initiates actions to manage the impact of the weather on the distribution system.
  • Develops and implements bridging plans to restore customer outages as well recovery plans for equipment in its last contingency.
  • Reviews switching requests from customers and Company personnel and accurately prepares associated switching orders to ensure all work is completed in a timely and safe manner.
  • Operates the outage management and associate dispatching system to accurately reflect all planned and unplanned switching activities including the number of customers affected, the outage cause, and the estimated time of restoration.

  • Performs after-hours callouts ensuring the proper resources are called consistent with the established agreements.
