About The Position

The North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) is an online community service K-12 public school established by the North Carolina State Board of Education to provide online courses to students across the state. NCVPS aims to offer high-quality educational experiences and equity of access, especially for courses unavailable due to teacher shortages or scheduling conflicts. NCVPS is seeking highly qualified NC-certified educators to serve as subject-matter experts on course development teams. The ideal applicant should be knowledgeable in course design frameworks such as Universal Design for Learning principles, Revised Bloom's Taxonomy, and backwards design. They must possess a strong understanding of curriculum standards and experience in creating engaging lessons and activities that promote active learning through problem-based learning, real-world examples, and authentic assessments. High organizational and self-management skills are essential, and applicants must own a personal computer, a phone or other communication device, and have Internet access.

Requirements

  • Highly qualified NC-certified educator
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert on course development teams
  • Knowledgeable of course design frameworks such as the Universal Design for Learning principles, Revised Bloom's Taxonomy, and backwards design
  • Strong understanding of curriculum standards
  • Experience creating engaging lessons and activities that promote active learning through problem-based learning, real-world examples, authentic assessments, and more
  • High organization and self-management skills
  • Own a personal computer, phone/other communication device, and Internet access
  • A current NC teaching license (in the applicable curriculum area and grade level) is required (NC ELA 6-9)
  • Current NC Professional Educator’s Teaching License in the subject areas in which they are applying to teach

Responsibilities

  • Complete asynchronous training and attend course development collaborative Zoom training sessions.
  • Be knowledgeable of and follow NCVPS requirements, and federal and state laws, and/or guidelines regarding: copyright, Fair Use, and accessibility; and, report any violations of federal and state laws and/or guidelines to the NCVPS staff.
  • Review content with attention to accuracy, alignment with standards and learning objectives, with consideration of audience and engagement.
  • Read, watch, & interact with all content from the perspective of an editor to ensure the content meets professional writing standards.
  • Complete all activities and assessments from the perspective of a student. The completed work will be provided as “student exemplars.”
  • Evaluate the appropriateness of the rubrics and answer keys from the perspective of an instructor.
  • Uphold all NCVPS guidelines and procedures outlined within the NCVPS training course and workshop, to include meeting all deadlines and communicating with the assigned staff member(s) when a deadline cannot be met.
