About The Position

Total Safety is looking for an EHS Specialist to join their safety conscious team! The EHS Specialist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, completion of industrial hygiene field investigations, identifying monitoring methods and media, performing exposure monitoring for hydrocarbons, particulates, and other airborne contaminants, conducting noise dosimetry sampling, and completing area noise surveys, assisting with indoor air quality investigations, operating, and maintaining field testing equipment, and compiling data from field investigations. Requirements

  • Must have coursework or training leading to CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or OHST (Occupational Health & Safety Technologist)
  • OSHA 500 & 501 certificate.
  • Certification to provide any H&S training needed on site.
  • Safe Work Permitting Certification or documented experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (especially Excel, Access, and Power Point) with ability to download, manipulate and report data.
  • Proficiency with HSE related software programs and HSE Management systems.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Working knowledge of OHSA and EPA regulations, State and Federal laws, local ordinances, and other rules and regulations associated with facility and employee safety and security.
  • Functional knowledge of incident command system and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of client H&S work process, tools, plant / department operations and processes prior to assignment.
  • Ability to provide field interpretation of regulations and client policies and assist with procedure development for a variety of H&S issues.
  • Understanding of business risk in analysis of alternatives.
  • Understanding of cost vs. benefit analysis.
  • Well-developed planning and organizational skills which include the ability to work independently, prioritize activities, meet commitments, and proactively manage time and a heavy workload.
  • High School diploma or GED and at least three (3) years progressive safety and health related experience and in overseeing contractor safety management.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in refinery operations is preferred.
  • Associate degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct industrial hygiene surveys including air and noise sampling, area noise, illumination, ventilation surveys, IAQ, ergonomic studies, and other studies as appropriate to expertise.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain instruments including sampling pumps, calibrators, noise dosimeters, and sound level meters, and direct reading gas meters.
  • Conduct safety inspections at client site.
  • Collect notes on activities performed by workers being monitored and/or maintain daily log of activities related to project work.
  • Complete data sheets, IH calculations, chain of custody forms, and prepare samples for shipment to laboratory.
  • Create data tables and drawings for reports.
  • Enter field data into MedGate.
  • Conduct respirator fit testing.
  • Submit administrative paperwork including timesheets, expense reports, field reports, etc. in accurate and neat format.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned.
