About The Position

This position is responsible for leading both the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) and Quality functions at the Wabtec Albia Manufacturing facility. The role involves planning, developing, and implementing effective EHS programs while also ensuring manufacturing quality excellence. This dual-focused position will create a proactive approach to safety, health, and quality in the workplace, while ensuring compliance with all environmental regulations and permits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in safety engineering science, quality, or related discipline (or high school diploma/GED with at least 5 years of relevant experience)
  • Minimum 3 years of EHS experience, preferably in an industrial environment
  • At least 5 years of relevant leadership experience in Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, or Services
  • Knowledge of safety/health regulations and OSHA compliance requirements
  • Experience identifying risk conditions and defining corrective action programs
  • Understanding of workers compensation laws at state level
  • Experience with facilities maintenance and building codes
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and data analysis skills
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills
  • Strong leadership, coaching, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple responsibilities

Nice To Haves

  • Professional safety certifications such as CSP, ASP, or CHMM
  • Knowledge of ISO/AAR standards, quality procedures, and audit techniques; certified auditor
  • Experience with welding, assembly, electrical, and test processes
  • Locomotive manufacturing knowledge including processes and failure modes
  • Strong customer focus with ability to operationalize a sense of urgency

Responsibilities

  • Develop, communicate, and maintain EHS programs and systems to ensure a safe work environment and culture of zero accidents
  • Track and drive improvements to EHS performance using leading and lagging indicators
  • Develop and drive completion of site's EHS risk reduction plan
  • Conduct required regulatory and Wabtec-mandated safety training for all employees
  • Identify root causes of near misses, first aid, injuries, and property damage to prevent recurrence
  • Coordinate and conduct periodic safety audits and inspections
  • Review all work-related injury investigation reports and verify corrective measures
  • Ensure risk assessments are conducted with team member engagement
  • Coordinate industrial hygiene surveys (noise, ventilation, chemical, ergonomic)
  • Design and deliver safety-related communication materials
  • Oversee workers compensation program administration
  • Manage uniform service, janitorial, and EHS-related suppliers (scrap metal, hazardous materials, waste removal)
  • Lead all elements of manufacturing quality at the Albia site
  • Lead root cause investigations of quality issues and containment of quality escapes
  • Own process compliance through quality audits and improvement plans
  • Lead quality culture improvement across the site with a customer-focused approach
  • Continuously develop product and process knowledge expertise
  • Lead and mentor resources assigned to quality activities
