About The Position

PURPOSE OF THE JOB The Site EHS Manager is the senior EHS authority for the Jeannette manufacturing site and associated test facility, responsible for leading, governing, and continuously improving all Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) activities. The role ensures full regulatory compliance while embedding a high-performance EHS culture that supports operational excellence, workforce wellbeing, and sustainable business performance. The position acts as both a strategic advisor to site leadership and a visible operational leader on the shop floor, ensuring EHS is fully integrated into planning, decision-making, and execution across all functions. This is a senior leadership role operating within a large, complex, and mature manufacturing environment of approximately 1,000 employees, with additional responsibility for a specialist compressor test facility. The role combines: Strategic Leadership: owning the site EHS management system, performance framework, and long-term improvement roadmap. Operational Engagement: maintaining a strong shop-floor presence, supporting frontline leaders, and ensuring practical risk control. Governance and Assurance: acting as the site authority for compliance, audits, and regulatory engagement. Crisis Leadership: acting as the EHS lead during emergencies, major incidents, and critical risk events. The role has full authority to intervene, stop work, escalate issues, and require corrective actions where risk is unacceptable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and / or Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
  • 7 - 10 years’ experience in senior EHS roles within heavy engineering, manufacturing, energy, petrochemical, or similar high-risk industrial environments.
  • 5+ years’ people management experience, leading multi-disciplinary EHS teams.
  • Expert working knowledge of US federal, state and local regulations (including OSHA, EPA, DOT and related agencies), with the ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements pragmatically within complex operational environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Lead Investigator with significant experience leading complex incident investigations is preferred.
  • Certified Lead ISO Auditor with experience in ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 / integrated management systems is preferred.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders, shape site culture, and deliver sustained improvements in EHS performance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain full compliance with all applicable environmental, health and safety regulations and corporate standards.
  • Act as site subject matter expert on legislation, emerging regulatory trends, and industry best practice.
  • Lead regulatory inspections, agency interactions, and statutory reporting.
  • Ensure all permits, licenses and approvals are maintained and effectively managed.
  • Own and continuously improve the site EHS Management System aligned to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Lead internal and external audits, statutory inspections and assurance programs.
  • Track, manage and close corrective actions with senior leadership accountability.
  • Establish clear governance structures, risk ownership and performance metrics.
  • Oversee risk assessments for all high-risk activities including contractor operations.
  • Ensure robust control of physical, chemical and ergonomic hazards.
  • Approve or challenge operational plans where risk exposure is unacceptable.
  • Exercise stop-work authority where necessary.
  • Lead and govern all serious incidents, near misses and high-potential events.
  • Ensure investigations are of high quality, root causes are identified, and lessons are embedded across the site.
  • Drive systematic learning and cross-site sharing of critical risks.
  • This is a supervisory role managing three EHS professionals and providing functional oversight of all EHS activities across the Jeannette site and Bullitt Ave facility. It includes direct responsibility for recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, discharge, performance appraisals, and salary increase planning.
  • Coach and influence site leadership on decisions affecting EHS culture and performance.
  • Act as a visible role model for safe behaviors and professional standards.
  • Champion workforce engagement, speak-up culture, and behavioral safety programs.
  • Embed EHS into daily operations, planning processes and performance reviews.
  • Oversee site EHS training strategy, curricula and competence frameworks.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and implement innovative learning methods.
  • Ensure leaders and supervisors are equipped to manage risk effectively.
  • Analyze EHS performance data and trends.
  • Lead improvement initiatives aligned to Group, Regional and Site KPIs.
  • Drive continuous improvement through structured programs and targeted interventions.
  • Contribute to longer-term strategic development and regional best practice.
  • Act as the site EHS advisor during emergencies and critical incidents.
  • Support business continuity planning and crisis response.
  • Provide professional leadership during high-pressure events.
