About The Position

Our purpose at CloudHQ is to provide flexible, efficient and resilient data center solutions to businesses of all sizes. Our growing organization was founded by the pioneer of data center REITs. CloudHQ has state-of-the-art data center sites located in two Northern Virginia locations, as well as London, Frankfurt, Paris, Milan, and Sao Paulo, and we anticipate exponential growth over the next several years both in the US and abroad. The candidate shall have a thorough understanding of federal and state regulations as they apply to operating data center and facilities under construction. The candidate shall provide leadership and management of regulatory and safety requirements company wide and assist in development of customer specific program areas of interest or focus. This position will create and administer training for all site personnel. The manager will be responsible for obtaining the required environmental permits as required by federal and local authorities and working to ensure compliance with such permits. The ideal candidate for this role will have five (5) to ten 10 years of experience as an EHS manager with a solid foundation in incident and contractor management. This position will report to the EHS Director.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in EHS
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting information to leadership within CHQ Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products and aptitude for learning additional software tools Excellent problem-solving skills; self-driven to develop quick, control measures Excellent leadership skills including the ability to train and motivate staff members Adaptability, with the ability to manage multiple situations or tasks at the same time Strong technical expertise with the ability to solve problems using analysis, technical and organizational expertise Strong teaming skills and works well with internal and external team members and drives execution through collaboration and networking Ability to respond to emails and phone calls after hours in the event of an emergency is required Ability and willingness to travel to other CHQ US data center sites is required Please Note: A passport, or the ability to obtain a passport for international travel is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental compliance and occupational safety & health, or a related degree in science/engineering discipline, MS preferred
  • Professional safety certification (i.e., Graduate Safety Practitioner [GSP], ASP or CSP Preferred or related accreditation
  • ISO 14001, 50001 or 45001 program knowledge and creation

Responsibilities

  • EHS Management of Data Center Operations (i.e., knowledge of mechanical, electrical, security and facilities systems in a mission critical Data Center environment)
  • Management of air permits from construction through annual reporting requirements
  • Management of UST registrations and annual compliance
  • Maintain pressure vessel compliance/certificates
  • Practice safe working techniques and re-enforce the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures as defined
  • Provide daily guidance and direction in EHS programs at the employee / supervisor level to ensure a common and effective approach
  • Responsible for assisting in the identification of possible losses; evaluating the risk in such loss exposure; developing and implementing a plan to correct or audit the plan to ensure its effectiveness (e.g., familiarity with FM programs)
  • Ensure that contractor personnel working on the property follow all policies and safety requirements
  • Create site training plans, conduct employee orientations and emergency response training
  • Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies are coordinated and deficiencies minimized and corrected. Coordinate with EVPs, COO, site and development operations on facility deficiencies and safety inspections.
  • Maintain logs and documentation associated with permits and regulatory requirements
  • Assist with maintaining the Site Preparedness and Emergency Plans & Procedures
  • Review accidents and incidents which occur and conduct field audits, reporting and managing the corrective actions
  • Maintain working relationships with Regulatory Agencies
  • Create and maintain hazard and risk assessments
  • Develop and maintain lessons learned database from incident review and causation analysis
