About The Position

Our team currently has an opening for a Manager of Environmental Health and Safety. The Manager of Environmental Health and Safety will be responsible for providing the organization with strategic direction and leadership for environmental, health and safety initiatives. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Operations. The position requires a person who is able to work independently while following company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a similar field.
  • 5+ years of working knowledge in the industry, preferably in chemical distribution.
  • Must have working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, DHS, EPA, FRA, ISO, AND HSE regulations and laws.
  • Must possess supervisory experience and be comfortable providing guidance and direction to their staff.
  • Capable of developing and maintaining effective working relationships with team members and other departments within the organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to motivate employees, and maintaining a positive attitude is essential.
  • Ability to prioritize work to meet time-sensitive deadlines both as an individual and as a manager.
  • Dedication to their team, and a willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Understanding of, and the ability to work within, organizational reporting structures.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation, E-Verify check, and pre-employment drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Manage risk considering legal compliance requirements, industry best practices, management system
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state and local legislation and codes governing environmental health and safety of production and transportation. Includes compliance with DOT and OSHA recordkeeping.
  • Provide guidance and information to executive leadership on EHS performance at all Southwest branches.
  • Provide information on priorities, risks, costs, incidents, concerns, and the interpretation of regulatory compliance.
  • Assist leadership with incident investigations, corrective actions, and final reports.
  • Evaluates field operations, including emergency response procedures and determines effectiveness and any improvements to be made.
  • Work with managers to solve plant production and communication problems looking for safer, more efficient, quality oriented solutions.
  • Manage implementation and evaluation of safety violation guidelines and award programs.
  • Ensure that all incident and accident reports are completed promptly and completely with effective root-cause investigation and follow-up by confirming the completion of corrective actions.
  • Create, foster, and grow a positive safety culture within the organization through frequent interactions and operations with all stakeholder groups.
  • Promote an open environment regarding safety.
