Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, Novelis has approximately 13,000 employees in 32 operating facilities on 4 continents. The Novelis Lincolnshire team is seeking an EHS Leader. This position is responsible for managing environmental compliance programs; articulating regulatory impact on operations to upper management; investigating, recognizing and recommending corrective actions for environmental compliance issues; and continuous improvement actions while functioning in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or similar field and minimum of five (5) years related experience in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, planning, organizational, time management, and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to influence others through coaching and behavior modeling by being clear, open, fair, honest, involving others in decisions that affect them, supplying resources as needed, and listening effectively.
  • Possess general knowledge and proficiency in general business and the ability to use computer applications, such as spreadsheets, word processing documents, databases, and email programs.
  • Possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Creativity and innovation for implementation of new programs and employee involvement.
  • Capability of managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work varied hours, be on call, and travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and maintain up-to-date knowledge in aspects of Safety and Environmental regulations and compliance reporting. Prepare and provide regular progress reports to the plant leadership team and to the corporate office.
  • Drive the plant’s efforts in continually improving the safety performance of the plant by chairing the Safety Committee, lead monthly plant safety meetings, conducting plant safety walk-arounds.
  • Work with the plant supervisors in preparing and conducting monthly crew safety meetings.
  • Monitor overall health, safety, and environmental compliance with federal, state, and/or corporate requirements.
  • Communicate issues with site leadership and corporate team as necessary.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the necessary training programs and systems to ensure compliance with regulations of State and Federal agencies and company requirements.
  • Implement activities and best protocols that focus on the prevention of incidents creating safe working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors to the plant sites.
  • Serve as a coach and facilitator to the team for the risk assessment and behavioral observations processes.
  • Identify and resolve safety and environmental issues that may arise, fully engaging Corporate, Plant Manager, and facility personnel in the process.
  • Communicate with and maintain professional relationships with environmental agency personnel regarding construction and operating permit issues, negotiating potential compliance issues and enforcement actions.
  • Serve as the company representative during any agency inspections of the facility, coordinating these events with the Plant Manager and the Director, HSE.
  • Review and maintain all environmental permits, files, and documents.
  • Understand all permit obligations and assure that systems are in place to meet all permit and regulatory requirements, assuring that all reporting is done on time and that all reports are accurate.
  • Participate with Corporate EHS on special projects, including training and participating as an EHS internal auditor.
  • Request quotes, seek purchase approval and lead plant projects as they relate to any required safety equipment and training activities.
  • Perform the duties as the primary contact between State Workers Compensation and facility, responsibilities include providing timely and accurate reports when required and working with Company’s insurance management function.
  • Primary contact for environmental and safety consultants/vendors.
  • Provide HSE assistance to the capital project managers and sponsors in the preparation of capital requests (AFEs) and complete reviews to ensure that all capital projects are compliant with all regulatory and company requirements.
  • Assist with maintaining a positive relationship with the local community
  • All other duties as assigned.
