The Novelis Rolled Products North America (RPNA) division is seeking a EHS (Health, Safety, and Environmental) Leader at our Casting facility located in Davenport, IA. The position reports to the Davenport EHS Manager. This person manages health, and safety programs; articulates regulatory impact on operations to upper management; investigates, recognizes and recommends corrective actions for environmental, health, and safety compliance issues, and continuous improvement actions while functioning in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or similar field and minimum of five (5) years related experience in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, planning, organizational, time management, and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to influence others through coaching and behavior modeling by being clear, open, fair, honest, involving others in decisions that affect them, supplying resources as needed, and listening effectively.
  • Possess general knowledge and proficiency in general business and the ability to use computer applications, such as spreadsheets, word processing documents, databases and email programs.
  • Possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Creativity and innovation for implementation of new programs and employee involvement.
  • Capability of managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work varied hours and be on call.

Nice To Haves

  • Hold a BCSP certification (ASP, CSP, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and maintain up-to-date knowledge in aspects of Safety and Environmental regulations and compliance reporting.
  • Actively drive the plant’s efforts in continually improving the safety performance of the plant, lead monthly plant safety meetings, conducting plant safety walk-arounds. Work with the plant supervisors in preparing and conducting monthly crew safety meetings.
  • Monitor overall health, safety, and environmental compliance with federal, state, and/or corporate requirements. Communicate issues with site leadership and corporate team as necessary.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the necessary training programs and systems to ensure compliance with regulations of State and Federal agencies and company requirements.
  • Take a leadership role in the implementation of activities and best practices that focus on the prevention of incidents creating safe working environment for all employees, contractors and visitors to the plant sites.
  • Serve as a coach and facilitator to the team for the risk assessment and behavioral observations processes.
  • Take a proactive leadership role in identifying and resolving safety and environmental issues that may arise.
  • Request quotes, seek purchase approval and lead plant projects as they relate to any required safety equipment and training activities.
  • Provide EHS assistance to the capital project managers and sponsors in the preparation of capital requests (RFAs) and complete reviews to assure that all capital projects are aligned with all regulatory and company requirements.
  • Assist with maintaining a positive relationship with the local community
