About The Position

This role will apply skills, education and knowledge base to processes and procedures in order to develop new skillsets and gain workforce experience. This role will work under direct supervision to provide support to the department as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED Required
  • Demonstrates excellent written and oral presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects at one time
  • Demonstrates the ability to work alone and in teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications, including MS Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree Preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree Focusing on environmental health and safety, environmental science, occupational safety and environmental health, life sciences, or similar major Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the Fire and Life Safety program:
  • Sampling for airborne dust/particulates and noise in patient care units near construction
  • Walks construction jobsites, mechanical spaces, and loading dock areas for regulatory deficiencies
  • Participates in scheduled fire drills across campus and the network
  • Conduct regular inventory of oil spill kits across campus
  • Rounding of the patient transport routes from CHOP to Penn Hospital to ensure a clear and unobstructed path per regulatory requirements
  • Respond with departmental staff to water intrusions, fire alarm activations, odors, etc.
  • Participates in the Industrial Hygiene program:
  • Sampling for noise in clinical laboratories
  • Trained and assists in conducting qualitative respirator fit testing
  • Participate in the bio-response training program
  • Evaluates the liquid nitrogen storage locations, the conditions, signage, etc. and cross-checking with current policies and procedures to verify compliance
  • Performs hazardous materials inspections
  • Responds with staff to chemical spills, emergency response calls, etc.
  • Conducts Joint Commission Preparedness rounding:
  • Collects and analyzes data in the hospital environment relative to fire safety, employee, visitor and patient safety
  • Supports new and/or ongoing high priority projects for the department
  • Determines any program weaknesses and provides solutions on how to best meet regulatory requirements
