About The Position

The EH&S Specialist is responsible for supporting and maintaining environmental, health, and safety programs within a boat manufacturing environment. This role focuses on regulatory compliance, injury prevention, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement of workplace safety practices related to fiberglass manufacturing, coatings, hazardous materials, and industrial operations. The EH&S Specialist partners closely with operations, maintenance, and leadership to promote a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, Environmental Science, or related field or equivalent experience
  • 2–5 years of EH&S experience in a manufacturing environment (fiberglass, chemical, coatings, or marine manufacturing preferred)
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and EPA environmental requirements
  • Experience with accident investigations and corrective action implementation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively on the production floor
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in boat, marine, automotive, or composite manufacturing
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials, fiberglass processes, resins, solvents, and coatings
  • OSHA 30‑Hour certification
  • First Aid / CPR / AED certification
  • Familiarity with workers’ compensation case management
  • Experience supporting ISO 14001 or ISO 45001 programs

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and enforcement of EH&S policies, procedures, and programs across the manufacturing facility
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and ergonomic assessments
  • Lead accident, near‑miss, and incident investigations; identify root causes and recommend corrective actions
  • Manage workers’ compensation cases, including injury reporting, claim coordination, return‑to‑work programs, and trend analysis
  • Assist with development and delivery of safety training (e.g., PPE, LOTO, confined space, respiratory protection, powered industrial trucks)
  • Support industrial hygiene activities, including exposure monitoring for fiberglass, styrene, solvents, and coatings
  • Assist with compliance related to EPA, state environmental agencies, and local regulations
  • Support hazardous waste management programs (identification, labeling, storage, disposal, manifests)
  • Maintain compliance with air permits, stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPP), and spill prevention programs (SPCC)
  • Coordinate environmental inspections, audits, and reporting requirements
  • Support waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability initiatives
  • Maintain EH&S documentation, records, and metrics (OSHA logs, training records, inspections, permits)
  • Assist with internal and external audits and regulatory inspections
  • Support emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness
  • Track EH&S KPIs and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Partner with supervisors and employees to reinforce safe work practices
  • Participate in safety committees and continuous improvement teams
  • Serve as a visible safety resource on the production floor
