About The Position

We have an opportunity for a self-motivated Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) Principal Specialist with industrial hygiene, environmental, and ergonomic experience who will support three Huntsville locations: Jan Davis Drive, Bob Heath Drive and Raytheon Redstone Missile Integration Facility (RRMIF). He/she will report to the site Environment, Health and Safety Manager. The EHS Principal Specialist will perform a variety of technical and business tasks, as well as apply EHS knowledge and experience in support of office, production and engineering activities. The individual’s responsibilities and tasks listed below are paramount to continue safe and efficient operations, protect people and the environment, prevent a work stoppage, or a slip in schedule, all of which would have a significant impact to program or operational costs and schedule requirements.

Requirements

  • Typically Requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience
  • Experience working with OSHA and / or EPA standards in a military or civilian environment
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U. S. security clearance. U. S. citizenship is required as only U. S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing EHS training to internal and/or external stakeholders
  • Experience in implementing and sustaining Industrial Hygiene, Environmental and Wellness programs in office, manufacturing and engineering environments.
  • Experience preparing and submitting federal and state injury statistics and environmental reporting.
  • Generalist in Environmental, Health and Safety disciplines with a stronger knowledge of EH&S requirements outlined in OSHA, ACGIH and EPA regulations.
  • Professional Certification in the EHS field (CIH, CHMM, ASP, CSP etc.).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to all levels of organization, from executive management to production workers.
  • Experience organizing and managing multiple projects and programs in a rapidly fluctuating environment.
  • Experience with MS Office applications including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Teams.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all federal and state environmental regulations are met, including but not limited to: hazardous/nonhazardous/universal wastes, stormwater permitting, Tier II reporting and inspections that support these tasks.
  • Conduct EH&S audits/inspections in engineering labs, offices, maintenance shops and dock areas to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local and company EH&S requirements.
  • Conduct comprehensive ergonomic assessments to identify risks and opportunities for improvement in various workplace settings.
  • Evaluate potential employee exposure to chemicals, noise and ergonomic stressors, interpreting exposure data and partnering and problem solving with functional leaders.
  • Organize, coordinate, develop and deliver material at EH&S councils, team and all hands meetings.
  • Assist management with ensuring one hundred percent on time completion of required EH&S training.
  • Investigate, analyze, and interpret data from injuries, near-misses and environmental escapes ensuring corrective actions are completed on time, and all necessary documentation is in place.
  • Participate in facility project meetings to ensure industrial hygiene and environmental items are identified for all planned construction projects.
  • Champion RTX core values and actively foster a strong and positive safety culture.
  • Maintain EH&S Management System conformance.
  • Take proactive steps to ensure the safety and health of site employees and influence safe behaviors.
  • Prioritize and provide timely support for multiple customers, requests and projects.
  • Work with minimal supervision, but will not hesitate to seek additional information from supervisors or peers so tasks can be completed timely and correctly.
