About The Position

The Environmental, Health & Safety (“EH&S”) Engineer collaborates with the EH&S department and leadership teams to develop, implement, and support safety and health procedures, policies, and training to assure compliance with governmental regulations. Supervises and assists with safety design review and the Management of Change process. Directs and conducts employee safety training as well as develops, prioritizes, and implements EH&S projects to protect people, products, and the environment from exposure to injury, risk, or economic loss.

Requirements

  • B.S./B.A. degree in EH&S, Engineering, Environmental/Natural Sciences, or in other related technical discipline with 3-6 years related EH&S experience in a manufacturing, or general industry environment.
  • SPCC Preparedness & Regulations
  • Hazardous Waste CFR49 Manifest and Control
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and 45001 Standards and processes
  • Subject Matter Expert knowledge of 29 CFR 1910 (Occupational Safety and Health Standards)
  • Knowledge of Clean Air and Water Acts
  • Knowledge of wastewater and air quality compliance
  • Solid understanding of the hazardous waste process for large or small quantity generators
  • Current FA/CPR/AED and first responder training preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly both in written and verbal formats
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and ensure that plans, guidance, and advice are accurate, timely and effective.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel, and PowerPoint

Nice To Haves

  • Current certification in HAZWOPR, RCRA, and DOT hazardous materials training is preferred.
  • CSP, ASP, or OHST preferred

Responsibilities

  • Promotes a proactive safety culture at all levels of the organization with a focus on employee engagement.
  • Reports all unsatisfactory conditions to appropriate personnel and EHS Management for correction.
  • Develops and improves EHS procedures, policies, and training materials.
  • Leverages expertise as a technical resource to the company in complex areas of EHS compliance, risk management, hazardous waste storage and disposal, industrial hygiene, industrial safety, and ergonomics.
  • Works in tandem with Operations Leadership to determine the existence of possible EH&S hazards to the organization and assists in taking steps to correct them.
  • Prepare written reports of, inspection/audit results, incidents/accidents, injuries and illness investigations, employee complaints or concerns as needed.
  • Demonstrates expert level knowledge and ability to maintain compliance with all aspects of the Illness and Injury Prevention Plan.
  • Coordinates and documents EHS audits throughout all assigned facilities for identification of facility/jobsite hazards and risks to prevent injuries, spills, or other EH&S impacts and to ensure compliance with company safety standards and government regulations.
  • Takes a proactive part in ensuring continuation of Site Safety Committee meetings and follows up on actions at designated FMI plants.
  • Participate in meetings with government agency requirements (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT, DTSC)
  • Assist in responding to regulatory inspections, investigations and recalls
  • Coaches EHS Specialist on various aspects of environmental, health and safety compliance while providing proactive partnership in all aspects of safety practice and regulatory compliance
  • Partners with vendors and internal business partners to promote execution of safety practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage the safety training including creation of targeted Safety Talk articles
  • Maintain EHS documentation such as, hazardous waste manifests and audit records ensuring compliance with ISO standards
  • Ensure chemical inventories and Safety Data Sheets (SDS’s), along with the site emergency response plans and reports, are current and accurate.
  • Active participant in ISO 14001 & 45001 certification and re-certification processes
  • Will serve as an active member or Captain of the First Aid/CPR Responder/ERT team.
  • Comply with applicable environmental, health and safety laws and regulations, Company policy and accepted safe work practices
  • Demonstrates expert level knowledge and ability to conduct thorough root cause analyses
  • Generate compliance reports as required
