About The Position

As an EEG Tech, you will perform diagnostic Electroencephalography, seizure monitoring, and evoked potential recordings of the brain or central nervous system per physician orders and established protocols. Every day you will prepare patients, ensure a safe testing environment, execute studies, observe and document results, and monitor equipment, all under direct healthcare provider supervision. To be successful, you will possess thorough knowledge of EEG equipment, continuously update your skills, and actively participate in quality assurance programs to uphold diagnostic accuracy and patient safety.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of EEG experience.
  • High School Graduate General Studies or 2 years equivalent work experience, upon hire
  • High School GED General Studies or 2 years equivalent work experience, upon hire
  • Registered EEG Technologist, upon hire
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient prior to performing procedure.
  • Ensures there is a written order prior to performing the procedure.
  • Obtains pertinent clinical information prior to the exam and reviews comparison and complimentary procedure or reports when available.
  • Provides pre and post procedural education and/or information to patients undergoing EEGs.
  • Assists physicians in performing EEG studies.
  • Calibrates all EEG and any support equipment for the exam.
  • Applies electrodes in predetermined positions on the patient's head to measure electrical patterns of the brain
  • Writes descriptive reports as required.
  • Competent in performing Evoke Potential testing and 24 hour monitoring.
  • Employs the use of Universal Precaution Standards when performing procedures.
  • Washes hand prior to and after the completion of each procedure.
  • Employs infection control practices in accordance to Policies and Procedures when cleaning equipment and instruments.
  • Employes infection control practices when performing exams on isolation patients.
  • Competent in performing Algo Hearing Screening test for both inpatient and outpatient procedures.
  • Receives test request and performs routine infant hearing screenings.
  • Prepares the patient for the exam.
  • Ensures proper placement of sensors and earphones onto the patient.
  • Verifies correct patient identity using two(2) patient identifiers.
  • Employs standard patient identifiers of name and date of birth.
  • Evaluates patient condition, assess if they are capable of answering questions necessary for proper identification.
  • Involves patient family member when appropriate for proper patient identification.
  • Employs appropriate communication skills in accordance to the Standards of Conduct.
  • Interacts and communicates with patients, families, visitors, medical staff, hospital and department staff in a professional manner.
  • Maintains a working relationship with internal and external departmental customers.
  • Employs the appropriate hospital script when answering the telephone. The script is as follows: State the name of the department,state your name,ask "How may I help you"
