The EEG Apprenticeship Program will expose you to all the cutting-edge technology and meaningful work that EEG Technologists do each day. You’ll be introduced to the electro-neurodiagnostic field and given an overview of the brain, the role of the technologist, and training on the diagnostic procedures used to monitor a patient’s brain and nervous system. You’ll also receive training and instruction in performing electroencephalographic examinations and epilepsy monitoring, calibrate and adjust equipment, observe patients with video and digital recording equipment, apply electrodes, respiration monitors and EKG, obtain relevant patient information from clinical records and questioning and prepare for the ABRET Registered EEG Technologist exam. After working as an apprentice, you’ll become a Non-Registered Monitoring Technician. Once you take and pass the exam, you’ll be a Registered EEG Technician and can apply for a rewarding career with Cleveland Clinic. Career advancement may include roles such as EEG reader, magnetoencephalography (MEG) technologist, intra-operative monitoring technologist and trainer of future EEG technologists. A caregiver in this position works Monday-Friday from 7:00AM – 3:30PM during the training period( first 90 days). After training must be open to working variable shifts as follows: 7am-3:30pm weekends and every other holiday 3pm-11:30pm weekends and every other holiday 11pm-7:30am weekends and every other holiday A caregiver who excels in this role will: Support functions essential to the operations of the Epilepsy Center.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Six months of direct patient care experience OR one year of post-secondary education
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross upon or within one month of hire
  • Knowledge of physical and biological sciences normally attained through high school coursework with an emphasis in those areas

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Associate’s Degree or higher

Responsibilities

  • Receive training and instruction in performing electroencephalographic examinations and/or epilepsy monitoring.
  • Apply suitable electrodes on predetermined measured positions and select appropriate montages.
  • Calibrate and adjust equipment.
  • Observe patients with video and digital recording equipment.
  • Ensure EEG and tape are lined up exactly.
  • Check focus, lighting and microphones.
  • Abstract relevant patient information from the clinical record and obtain additional information through questioning.
  • Apply electrodes, respiration monitors and EKG.
