About The Position

The PAWS Educator will deliver PAWS Education Programs, with the goal of developing and delivering engaging, mission-driven programs, inspiring children and adults to demonstrate compassionate, respect, and responsible action towards all animals. This role focuses on direct program delivery through classroom education, on-site programs, and community education & outreach.

Requirements

  • College degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Must have a minimum two years demonstrated successful prior experience delivering and developing experiential learning educational programs.
  • Experience working with youth or diverse community audiences
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid Washington state driver’s license with no record of major or repeated minor traffic offenses.
  • Ability to provide reliable transportation and required insurance coverage.
  • A passion for PAWS’ mission, teaching, learning and public policy.
  • Strong public speaking and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to create inclusive, welcoming learning environments for participants of all backgrounds.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, while also working independently.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic Microsoft Office or similar technical experience.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time, including working at a computer.
  • Must be able to transport education program supplies.
  • Candidates must be able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds with the assistance of other staff or volunteers.
  • Must be able to transport outreach equipment and materials.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred fields of study: Education, Biology, Environmental Education, or a related field.
  • Experience working alongside volunteers in an educational setting preferred
  • Certified Humane Education Specialist, Certified Interpretive Guide, or equivalent environmental education certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality education programs for a diverse audience, including youth and adults, both at PAWS Lynnwood campus and offsite at outreach locations, both on-site at PAWS, off-site at schools and virtually.
  • Prepare for and support program logistics, including setup and breakdown of materials and spaces.
  • Collaborate with Education team members to develop, refine, and update curriculum and program materials.
  • Incorporate feedback, observations, and current best practices in humane and environmental education into program delivery.
  • Support basic program evaluation efforts, including collecting attendance data and participant feedback.
  • Work collaboratively with education interns and volunteers during program delivery to support a positive and effective learning environment.
  • Contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records regarding all education and outreach programs, including pre-and post-survey responses, attendance, quotes and testimonials, and other metrics.
  • Write and contribute content for internal publications, social media, and website about humane and environmental education, the PAWS Education department, youth involvement with PAWS, and related issues.
  • Contribute occasional content to support education-related communications, as appropriate.
  • Stay informed on trends and best practices in environmental and humane education.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
