About The Position

Responsibilities/Essential Functions Educating and Instructing Teachers Provide knowledgeable explanations about a variety of space and aviation related subjects and perform lectures/briefings as assigned such as, but not limited to: Crew Systems, Shuttle Orientation, and Rocket Park & Museum History. Ensure that teachers are adequately instructed in all program contents and activities to ensure a successful, quality and enjoyable experience. Notify management of issues related to supplies, issues with teachers, issues with other USSRC staff as soon as possible. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for teachers and employees. Meet and exceed the expectations of the Director of Education and other Education Department staff members for the timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks and activities. Assist with supply prep as needed. Assist with teacher check in and daily pickup at dorms at University of Alabama in Huntsville and be organized with the paperwork involved. Presenting educationally sound workshops and activities for teachers Present workshop each time throughout summer as scheduled. Request supplies for the workshop in a timely manner, set up/ cleanup workshop when scheduled. Respond to evaluation of workshop and make changes as needed. Must present in a professional and safe manner. Meet and exceed the expectations of the Director of Education and other Education Department staff members for the timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks and activities. Supervisory Responsibilities : No Travel Required : No

Requirements

  • Education: Certified teacher or senior in an education degree program required.
  • Work Experience: Experience in a similar educational, instructional, work environment required.
  • Must possess excellent communication and instructional skills to instruct and teach others and be a positive role model.
  • Must be able to complete the one-week training period and use feedback as specified by Center management.
  • Willingness to be open to learning and growing.
  • Interpersonal skills to work as an integral part of a team.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, appropriate references.
  • Appropriate interpersonal/personal boundaries.
  • Maturity of judgment and behavior.
  • Accepts full responsibility for their actions and how these may affect others.
  • Must have the ability to lead & direct.
  • Adherence and participation in the Center’s Safety Program.
  • Motivates each group and trainee to be goal and accomplishment oriented.

  • Walking and climbing (stairs) to access other departments and experience all areas of the training center floor.
  • Standing for long periods of time (4-6 hours) or for duration of shift instructing and operating simulators.
  • Carrying and lifting equipment, supplies, and objects up to 50 pounds to waist height.
  • Bending, kneeling, and reaching to store & retrieve supplies, operate simulators and develop schedules & activities.
  • Seeing to present lectures and briefings and conduct instructional tours through the museum and other areas of the facility and campus.
  • Talking and hearing to communicate with supervisors, guests, trainees, and employees in person.

Nice To Haves

  • B.S. or B.A. degree with classroom experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with teachers in a professional development environment desired.
