Job Summary The Educator, EMS functions as training and education chief for UMC Emergency Medical Services Reports to: Assistant Director, EMS Job Specific Responsibilities Daily assignments may include but are not limited to: • Plans and conducts employee orientation, required recertification courses, and all other job-related training programs for the department’s employees • Ensures the department is compliant with all infection control and quality improvement standards as described by UMC Health System, DNV, and all other applicable organizations • Serves as liaison to the hospital, colleges and the public sectors regarding education • Assures quality assurance and improvement for the UMC EMS system • Maintains all regulations from UMC Health System and DNV, and all other applicable organizations • Occasionally will assist with EMS field operations and staffing when special needs arise as in MCI situations • Assists with local and regional marketing efforts of UMC EMS and UMC Health System • All other assigned duties related to Education and Emergency Medicine Education and Experience • High School Diploma or GED • + 5 years of experience working in 9-1-1 systems • + 2 years of experience leading training and development curriculums, preferably in a hospital setting Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations • Texas Department of State Health Services Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic or Licensed Paramedic certification • EMT-P, ACLS, PALS (Instructor certifications for all must be obtained within 180 days of hire into the role) • BLS: Basic Life Skills or BLS Instructor’s certification by The American Heart Association • Class C driver license with no DWI convictions in the prior 10 years Skills and Abilities • Practical knowledge of medicolegal aspects of pre-hospital patient care is essential • Basic medical terminology and pre-hospital patient care skills • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing; Must speak English fluently • Knowledge of the Lubbock geographical areas or the ability to effectively read GPS coordinates Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships This position will interact with patients, their family members, health care providers, members of public safety and law enforcement personnel, students, volunteers, and fellow employees Physical Capabilities Frequently exerts a medium amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull and move patients or objects. Frequently work involves sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching and kneeling. Occasionally work involves running, climbing stairs, climbing ladders and crawling. Environmental/Working Conditions Emergency Medical Services provides offices and crew quarters which are well lighted and ventilated. This position is subject to adverse weather and working conditions. The Educator is occasionally exposed to blood, and other infectious agents. Occasionally work involves the Educator to be outdoors, in confined spaces, heights, underground, wet, and dry environments, a wide range of temperatures, unusual lighting and noisy environments.
