About The Position

The Office of Workforce Development & Science Education (WDSE) has an opening for an Educational Programs Representative to work closely with the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists (WDTS), BNL professionals, research staff, and external clients to plan, coordinate and support complex education initiatives, including college student internship and faculty programs, university workshops and student programs. This posting will report to the Manager of Workforce Development & Science Education. This position supports the planning and implementation of the day-to-day operations for research-intensive internship programs and assorted other programs incorporating field and facility research by students, teachers, and faculty. Programs, among others, may include the DOE-sponsored Visiting Faculty Program (VFP), the DOE-funded Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship Program (SULI), and the Community College Internship Program (CCI), as well as an assortment of other related initiatives ranging from the high school level to university faculty. The successful candidate will contribute to the WDSE team in implementing programs that are designed to build and enhance the Lab’s reputation as one of the best locations in the DOE complex for STEM workforce development at all educational levels. This position requires a full-time presence on-site, occasional use of a personal vehicle, some travel, and occasional nights and weekends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM field, STEM education or equivalent experience, generally on the basis of 2:1 (experience:college) years
  • Experience in education, research, and/or STEM program administration
  • Ability to quickly and independently create reports or provide technical information
  • Knowledge in conducting scientific research
  • Demonstrated strong relationship-building skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communications
  • Good skills in using different social media platforms
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, timelines, and timely responses to colleagues, engineers, scientists, and technicians in and outside the lab
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google applications

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in STEM or related field
  • Demonstrated excellence in preparing proposals, reports, and evaluations
  • Experience working in workforce development programs with students, teachers, and faculty.
  • Demonstrated excellence in collaborating effectively with colleagues, engineers, scientists, and technicians

  • Experience in the management of programs such as internships and faculty research programs

  • Previous lab education experience

Responsibilities

  • Support the administration, planning, development, evaluation, revision, and day-to-day implementation of assigned WDSE university programs.
  • Work collaboratively with the Stakeholder Relations Office, national scientific research facilities, scientific divisions, other DOE labs, and external academic and informal STEM education collaborators.
  • Support the oversight and administration of recruitment activities, including targeted recruitment strategies.
  • Develop outreach/promotional strategies, prepare program announcements/flyers, and participate in professional meetings, conferences, etc., for recruiting purposes.
  • Support research projects, programs, and activities involving students and educators.
  • Maintain databases as part of monitoring different programs
  • Build key performance indicators and conduct regular assessments of WDSE’s university educational programs’ effectiveness
