About The Position

This position is for our Varsity camp, campers ages 12-14. May require occasional work with Junior Varsity campers (10-11) and Club U (5-9). This year our Varsity camp is getting some big changes! There will be 3 focused sessions specializing in: STEAM - Activities will include science, technology, and art! Adventure- Activities include rafting, rock climbing, hiking and more! Expression- Activities include painting, ceramics, and movement inspired field trips like KTR ! The remaining weeks are single sessions featuring classic camp field trips and activities. Join the Club U Summer Camp crew and get ready for the best summer of your life! Work on campus and enjoy making a positive difference in the lives of children as you deliver engaging and enriching activities here at the University of Utah. Participate and lead Varsity campers in exciting journeys of educational exploration with hands on learning, fun community interactions, amazing field trips and more! Requirements

  • Three years experience as a classroom assistant in a related academic area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience)
  • knowledge and understanding of a variety of teaching methods in order to adjust activities/training session to include participants of different ages
  • a thorough knowledge of related academic subjects in order to participate in developing classroom activities/programs
  • demonstrated knowledge of teaching methods and communication skills to conduct educational activities and/or training sessions in a clear and concise manner required.
  • Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their camper group within activities and throughout the camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes.
  • Assures campers are properly supervised at all times.
  • Apply basic youth development principles such as relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement and empowerment of youth while working with campers.
  • Develop and implement activities for campers in accordance with the camp mission.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety for campers and staff.
  • Provide care for each camper within your supervision, including recognition of ones own personal health needs.
  • Be alert to campers and staff needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems; discuss with camp director when appropriate.
  • Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
  • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
  • Represent the camp when interacting with parents or community members.
  • Provide parents appropriate feedback and information as needed for their campers to have a successful camp experience.
