About The Position

Reporting to the Manager of Studio Programs, the Education Seasonal Assistant supports Newfields’ mission by delivering engaging, active, and meaningful artmaking and learning experiences for youth both onsite at Newfields and offsite at local partner locations. This position plays a key role in expanding Newfields’ community reach through outreach programs and by leading two full weeks of Newfields Summer Camp alongside a contracted teaching assistant. The Educator, Summer Associate reports to the Manager of Studio Programs and collaborates closely with Education staff, Teaching Artists, and external partners. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal communication and engagement skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and positively with diverse audiences and team members.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and respond effectively to dynamic situations.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to manage others and prioritize tasks during fast-paced programming days.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office or equivalent platforms; ability to complete simple digital forms and reports.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • At least one year of experience in education, youth programming, studio art, museum education, or a related field preferred.
  • Background in hands‑on artmaking with children and intergenerational groups, and familiarity with diverse materials and creative processes.
  • Experience working with children in camp, classroom, or informal learning environments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engaging artmaking and learning experiences at Newfields and at offsite camp locations.
  • Adapt lesson plans for diverse groups to ensure experiences are age‑appropriate, inclusive, and connected to Newfields’ collections, gardens, and exhibitions.
  • Represent Newfields professionally while working with community partners, caregivers, and youth participants.
  • Serve as lead educator for Newfields Summer Camp, facilitating daily activities, supervising campers, and ensuring a safe, positive learning environment.
  • In collaboration with a contracted teaching assistant, provide direction, coordination, and daily planning for camp groups.
  • Prepare and organize materials, classroom spaces, and camper supplies.
  • Adhere to and enforce established safety protocols.
  • Assist with camper check-in/out procedures.
  • Assist the Education and Public Programs team with First Thursdays, Summer Nights, Wee Wonders and other community and studio-based programs as assigned.
  • Prepare and organize materials and activity spaces, facilitate art making experience, and provide general program support.
  • Interact with and assist visitors.
