Under general supervision of the Education Research and Evaluation Administrator I of the Science Office, and working with staff throughout the California Department of Education (CDE), the Education Programs Consultant independently and collaboratively performs complex tasks that support California's statewide student assessment system with an emphasis on science content. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Monitor the item and test development process to ensure the validity, reliability, and fairness of the science assessments within the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System. Develop and review program resources primarily for the CAASPP System with a focus on science assessments. Develop and maintain literacy and fluency of the three-dimensional California Next Generation Science Standards. Observe training provided by contractors and assist district test coordinators with data, test results, and reporting guidelines to ensure data are complete and accurate in accordance with established policies and procedures. Write State Board of Education information memorandums and meeting items, analyze legislation, develop and review policies and regulations, develop and implement Requests for Proposals and coordinate the proposal review process, and prepare Budget Change Proposals.   • Experience working with Kindergarten through grade 12 (K-12) students
  • Knowledge of and experience with the California Next Generation Science Standards (CA NGSS)
  • Experience with large-scale assessment in education
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills and organizational habits
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse groups of interest holders in K-12 education
  • Ability to work independently and on a team to ensure project deadlines are met
