About The Position

This position reports to the Chief Compliance Officer. This position provides oversight and guidance as the Special Education Services at the Arizona State Hospital (ASH). Duties include monitoring and improving services to patients; planning, developing, organizing, implementing and evaluating the special education programming for patients who qualify for special education services ensuring the required state and federal guidelines as established by the Arizona Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Education and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) are met; preparing and implementing program curricula; facilitating learning outcomes. Performs other related duties as assigned. MUST NEED TEACHING CERTIFICATION FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION The candidate will be working 1-5 hours a month, and needs to be available when needed for guidance and advise Local Only Candidates - Resumes must specify the current location of the candidate, all those who do not state current location will not be considered. - AS A REMINDER - Candidates must be local at time of submission, and available for in person interviews within 1 week of the posting close date. Candidates must also be able to start within 2 weeks of an offer being made.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements and evaluates special education services programming
  • Reviews records for all patients who are under the age of twenty-two (22), who have not graduated from high school, and determine special education eligibility
  • Conducts interviews and administer educational evaluation and assessment appropriate to the patient’s educational needs
  • Develops an IEP and curriculum for qualified patients to meet the patient’s identified educational needs in accordance with IDEA guidelines.
  • Implements individualized educational curriculum and programming
  • Establishes appropriate goals and objectives for each patient that qualifies for special education services based on current level of educational functioning
  • Documents result of the educational evaluation, goals and objectives, educational progress of patients in the health record according to ASH’s administrative policy and procedure
  • Participates in treatment planning
  • Provides support and education to teaching staff
  • Maintains patients’ education records and Nueva Vista School District data with state and federal special education laws and requirements of the Arizona Department of Education.
  • Completes required reporting necessary for funding and management of special education services
  • The candidate will be working 1-5 hours a month, and needs to be available when needed for guidance and advise
