The Education Program Associate Specialist for the Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies will plan, coordinate, and support a University grant to establish the OPEEP (Ohio Prison Education Exchange Project). Ohio Prison Education Exchange Project (OPEEP) addresses unjust prohibitions to higher education for those involved in the State of Ohio’s criminal justice system, by building robust, interdisciplinary, cross-campus, and sustainable prison education project, including an embedded Bachelor of Arts degree in WGSS at the Ohio Reformatory for Women. Community engaged research and pedagogy is intrinsic to the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) field The Education Program Associate Specialist will enhance our department’s capacity to deepen and broaden our community engaged scholarship by sustaining collaborative interdisciplinary research and teaching partnerships among our core faculty, affiliated faculty, OPEEP faculty, campus and incarcerated students, and community partners. The Education Program Associate Specialist will support the administrative functions; coordinate the special events on campus, in prison facilities, and in local communities; provide program information to faculty, students, potential donors, and community members; advise faculty and students about procedures and policy interpretation; participate in committee meetings and university program meetings as needed; assist with special issues; facilitate OPEEP curricular planning in 2-3 central Ohio prison locations; maintain records; maintain confidential materials as required by departmental and OSU guidelines; update University informational materials; assist with project assessments; and respond to inquiries. The Education Program Associate Specialist will also be responsible for creating promotional and communications materials such as digital and print newsletters to highlight accomplishments of the faculty, community members, staff, campus, and incarcerated students. They will also assist with publicizing and promoting special events through the creation of graphic and print materials for distribution to the University community. The Education Program Associate Specialist will also serve as website content manager; manage social networking sties, project calendars, and email distribution lists; serve as the primary customer service contact by providing information about programs and resources; provide administrative support which will include scheduling appointments, committee scheduling, and special projects as assigned; coordinate grant and awards submission process; assist instructor with special requests.
