About The Position

New American Pathways is a local 501(c) 3 nonprofit that helps refugees from the moment of arrival in Georgia through their journey to citizenship. Our specially designed programs provide proven pathways for refugees and other immigrants to realize their full potential and dreams as they build new lives. Our comprehensive model is unique. We begin with resettlement services and offer steady guidance and advocacy for each family as they pursue jobs, education, cultural integration, individual and female empowerment, and whatever each person needs on their pathway to succeed. By matching peoples’ unique assets with opportunities in the community, we ensure that each new American we serve can succeed, strengthen the American workforce, and help Georgia thrive. General Description The role of an Intern is vital in supporting the Education and Youth Department to implement after-school programs. The Intern will work closely with lead teachers and instructors in creating site documents and assisting sites with programming. The Intern's primary responsibilities will include aiding in the creation of spreadsheets that document rosters, attendance, bus routes, reading groups, etc; assisting in the development of engaging and creative lessons in the areas of literacy, character development, community engagement or social studies, and STEAM; providing on-site support in the implementation of daily activities at an after-school site.

Requirements

  • Ability to speak and write fluently in English.
  • Passion for serving youth combined with a high level of social intuition and emotional intelligence.
  • Strong self-initiator.
  • Superior organizational skills, ability to handle large amounts of complex information, and an ability to multi-task.
  • Currently pursuing or possessing a bachelor's or advanced degree.
  • Computer proficiency and skills are necessary, including willingness to work in Microsoft Excel and Teams.
  • Willing to work in a diverse environment and with refugee/immigrant communities.
  • Commitment to the organization's mission of supporting refugees and promoting growth in Georgia is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Assistance in the creation of Site Documentation including rosters, attendance sheets, reading group lists, field trip permission slips, etc.
  • Assist staff in writing lessons and preparing materials in the areas of literacy, character development, community engagement or social studies, and STEAM.
  • Print all relevant documents for lessons and gather any other relevant materials.
  • Attendance at least one day a week at an after-school site in the afternoon.
