About The Position

The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida’s social services agency, overseeing services for child safety, fostering, adoption, domestic violence, adult protective services, refugees, homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, childcare providers, human trafficking and public assistance. The agency’s mission is to work in partnership with local communities to protect the vulnerable, promote strong and economically self-sufficient families, and advance personal and family recovery and resiliency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services, statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders. Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 613-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility. This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the Education and Training Specialist within Nursing Services. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. This role requires the use of independent judgment, a proactive approach to responsibilities, and exceptional attention to detail.

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of professional experience in training, education, staff development, personnel or an agency program area.
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one year of the required experience.
  • A doctorate from an accredited college or university can substitute for the required experience.
  • Professional or nonprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and conduct various training, workshops and in-services for staff in assigned living area, as well as hospital-wide.
  • Assist in formulating curriculum materials, staff training, performance monitoring and maintenance, and scheduling of assigned training.
  • Conduct training in Crisis Prevention, First-Aid and CPR.
  • Provide instruction to assigned Living Area in Mandt, Train-The-Trainer, Quality Training, First-Aid and CPR.
  • Conduct other training as directed by NEFSH, Children & Families District IV, Children & Families Central Training Office, and other required topics.
  • Input training data into the Master Training file following each training session.
  • Issue certifications to staff in the above mentioned training.
  • Responsible for the coordination/development of monthly unit and hospital wide training calendars, listing and posting all the training offerings of SD&T.
  • Responsible for the tracking and certification of staff.
  • Maintain assigned Living Area’s compliance above the ninety (90) percent level in Mandt, First-Aid and CPR.
  • Serve as a liaison between staff development and other NEFSH Living Areas.
  • Prepare, administer, collect and tabulate annual needs assessment for assigned Living Area.
  • Develop, coordinate and implement training program from results of annual needs assessment.
  • Work to broaden the trainer base by soliciting new instructors from qualified, credentials professional and supervisory staff within the hospital.
  • Operate, maintain operation and inventory of audio visual equipment.
  • Responsible for inventory, resource materials and training aids.
  • Responsible for upkeep and acquisition of training supplies as related to Mandt, First-Aid, and CPR.
  • Update and create written curriculum for new training offerings for approval by department head.
  • Monitor staff trained in selected offerings to ensure the retention of skills.
  • Provide oversight and serve as the "expert” of the above-mentioned curriculum.
