About The Position

In this role, you will be a valuable part of Ford’s Research and Advanced Engineering organization, delivering next-generation hydraulic fluids that offer improved performance in the areas of mechanical efficiency, heat transfer and wear resistance. About 50 percent of your time will be spent on tribology and the other 50 percent will be focused on hydraulics and thermal heat transfer. Your work will support R&A technology development by leading oil development. This role is expected to deliver future fluids by creating specifications and requirements. You will work with major OEM oil suppliers, setting targets, leading system level testing to quantify performance parameters. You will also coordinate and perform testing in our tribology laboratory.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree
  • 6+ years of experience in tribology, oil or hydraulic fluid related position.
  • 2+ years of experience directly related to the development or testing of fluid related properties.
  • 2+ years of experience coordinate fluids testing for common testing properties.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on test experience related to fluid development and prove out.
  • Deep experience with eDrivetrain/Transmission/Driveline operation, design tolerances and components that experience wear and component failures related to lubrication or the lack of.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to turn test data into clear decisions and recommendations.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively as part of a diverse team

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Lead the creation and implementation of oil testing specifications and requirements.
  • Lead testing at suppliers for the testing and analysis of oil performance.
  • Lead tribology laboratory, maintain equipment and improve lab testing capabilities.
  • Customer Engagement & Technology Transition: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal customers in Research and Product Development, to support production or warranty related actions or studies.
  • Represent Ford Motor Company or conferences and symposiums.
  • Deliver transferable work products to the Product Development Team that is applicable for a production program.
