THIS IS A 2ND SHIFT POSITION ROLE AND POSITION OBJECTIVES: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) Machinist to join our precision manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating EDM equipment to produce aerospace components to the highest standards of quality and precision. As a Machinist for General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) Precision Structures & Optics (PSO) located in Cullman, AL, you’ll be a member of a cross functional team responsible for manufacturing Beryllium products for use in the most demanding applications, across the aerospace, defense, and nuclear industries. Our products are used in high performance sensing systems for targeting and acquisition, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions, and are hardened for the battlefield environment.

Requirements

  • Technical certificate or 2 years of experience or equivalent is required.
  • CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency in CNC programming and CAM software
  • Strong understanding of GD&T
  • Ability to use precision measurement equipment including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges, etc.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to zero-defect quality standards

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate wire EDM and sinker/ram EDM machines
  • Experience in the manufacture of tight tolerance, complex geometry precision products, particularly within an aerospace or medical component machine shop
  • Ability to work from blueprints, advanced drawings, process sheets, sketches and GD&T callouts to perform machining operations with precision, quality, and safety
  • Program EDM machines using CAM software
  • Select and prepare electrodes to required specifications
  • Monitor and maintain dielectric fluid systems for optimal machine performance
  • Maintain accurate documentation and traceability records per AS9100 requirements
  • Identify and troubleshoot machine faults, burn quality issues, and process deviations
  • Follow all FOD (Foreign Object Debris) prevention and safety protocols
