About The Position

As the first U.S. publisher dedicated to art and illustrated books—and an industry leader in visual and narrative publishing—ABRAMS is seeking an Editorial Intern to join our ComicArts (Magna) team as part of our Spring 2026 Internship Program commencing on January 20, 2026. Over the course of this immersive, unpaid program (offered for academic credit only), interns will gain meaningful insight into the world of book publishing while contributing to real projects that drive our business forward. You’ll learn alongside experienced professionals, develop practical skills in your area of interest, and participate in opportunities designed to broaden your understanding of the publishing industry. Our goal is to help prepare the next generation of publishing talent while fostering a passion for books, art, and culture. As the ComicArts (Magna) Editorial Intern, you will be an integral part of our creative team, supporting the editorial process and gaining hands-on experience in the dynamic world of comic book publishing. This internship is designed to provide you with exposure to various aspects of editorial work, from manuscript review to publication.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate or graduate education with an anticipated graduation date in 2026 or 2027
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and hungry to learn
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Passion for comic books and a keen understanding of the comic book industry.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong grasp of grammar and storytelling principles.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with comic book creation software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Learning and networking with ABRAMS employees, publishing professionals, and fellow interns during a summer internship experience for academic credit
  • Gaining hands-on exposure to the publishing industry, from concept to finished product
  • Supporting research, project work, and day-to-day tasks within your assigned department
  • Contributing ideas and providing creative input on department projects
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams and learning about various areas of the publishing business
  • Participating in workshops and discussions designed to deepen your understanding of publishing trends and processes
  • Receiving coaching, mentorship, and feedback from experienced ABRAMS professionals
  • Assist in reviewing and evaluating comic book scripts and artwork submissions.
  • Provide constructive feedback to creators and communicate editorial decisions effectively.
  • Organize and maintain editorial calendars, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Manage communication between the editorial team and contributors.
  • Conduct research on relevant topics to ensure accuracy in comic book narratives.
  • Verify historical information to enhance storytelling authenticity.
  • Assist in the Editing Process.
  • Collaborate with editors to proofread and edit comic book scripts for grammar, style, and continuity.
  • Participate in creative discussions and brainstorming sessions.
  • Coordinate with artists, writers, and other creative contributors to facilitate smooth workflow.
  • Attending team meetings and contributing ideas to enhance the overall quality of comic book projects.
