The Editorial Client Manager plays a pivotal role within J&J Editorial, serving as the leader of a specific client group in the editorial services division. This position is overseen by the Editorial Services Coordinator and acts as a primary point of contact for both clients and employees working directly with those clients. The Editorial Client Manager is responsible for managing one or more journals, ensuring that all editorial processes run smoothly and efficiently. This role requires a blend of leadership, project management, and client relationship skills to ensure high levels of client satisfaction and operational excellence. In terms of internal functions, the Editorial Client Manager monitors the distribution of work and time within their client group, identifying the needs of the division, such as coverage, capacity, and organization. They work closely with the Editorial Services Coordinator to develop effective client teams and share employees as needed. The manager is tasked with addressing any issues that arise with tasks or employees to maintain client satisfaction. They also collect and record institutional knowledge about each client, including changes to publisher policies and key contacts, ensuring that this information is shared with the team as necessary. The Editorial Client Manager is responsible for training employees on current protocols and best practices, improving internal processes, and conducting performance reviews for direct and indirect reports. They approve employee time off, ensure coverage plans are in place, and monitor productivity and individual workloads. Additionally, they may be responsible for collecting invoicing information for billing clients and serve as a resource for employee questions regarding company policies. Externally, the Editorial Client Manager serves as the primary contact for client queries related to the day-to-day management of editorial services. They are ultimately responsible for the completion of tasks and overall client satisfaction, building relationships with client contacts to expand J&J's offerings. This role may require travel to client meetings and industry conferences, emphasizing the importance of maintaining strong client relationships and understanding industry trends.
