About The Position

This position serves as an important editor and writer for Illinois State University's many communications, contributing to the editorial quality and consistency of University communications through professional writing and editing skills. As a key member of the editorial and online communications team, this position is responsible for leading the University’s premier research publication, Redbird Scholar; for collaborating with others on the University’s flagship podcast: and for ensuring that flagship and client communication projects proceed to completion on deadline and are of such quality that they convey the University's overall excellence.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, English, or closely related field
• Five (5) years of professional-level experience in editing or writing
• Three (3) years of professional level experience overseeing a magazine or publication with a proven ability to write multisource feature stories, edit feature stories, and conduct interviews for feature stories
• Strong feature writing and copy-editing skills
• Familiarity with Associated Press style
• Demonstrated copyediting and proofing skills
• Ability to remain at a workstation for extended periods
• Ability to move about in various locations across campus as needed to complete day-to-day work
• Ability to effectively communicate on a daily basis
• Authorization to work in the U.S. without ISU sponsorship
• Establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days from the start date if hired as an out-of-state candidate

• Ability to work with a committee structure and in partnership with multiple clients/offices on any given project

• Occasionally work outside normal business hours to cover a story or an event
