The Emergency Department Technician performs a variety of patient-related duties under the guidance of a registered nurse or medical provider. Key responsibilities include wound care, management of orthopedic injuries, preparing patients for medical assessment, monitoring vital signs and telemetry, performing IV access and blood draws, and collecting patient specimens. The technician assists providers and RNs during critical events such as Strokes, STEMIs, and Trauma Activations. This role requires knowledge of various medical equipment and procedural applications, including setting up patient rooms for specific exams and procedures. Accurate documentation of patient care, assisting with patient mobility, hygiene, and discharge preparations are also crucial. The ED Tech must possess de-escalation skills for interacting with aggressive or unstable patients and perform clerical duties such as cleaning, stocking, and organizing the ED environment and basic equipment maintenance.
