About The Position

The ED Tech performs as a fully versed member of a team responsible for all department operations, ensuring the smooth functioning of the department. This role coordinates and expedites the flow of patients and providers, managing multiple clinical responsibilities. These responsibilities include performing EKGs, phlebotomy, splinting, wound care, crutch walking, patient activities of daily living, and post-mortem care. The ED Tech provides assistance and support to physicians and nurses as needed, and also assists with clerical and receptionist duties. Adherence to hospital policy regarding patient confidentiality is required, along with exhibiting a caring and respectful demeanor to sensitively respond to patient needs. Essential responsibilities further include performing lab testing and specimen collection according to protocol, communicating results to appropriate department personnel, and documenting in the medical record, including Point of Care Testing. The ED Tech also performs vital signs, visual acuity testing, and oxygen saturation testing according to protocol, communicating results to the clinical nurse and ED attending and documenting interventions.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 0-1 years related work experience required.
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
  • Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Competent to provide patient care to Neonatal (Birth to 6 months), Youth (6 months to 16 years), Young adult (16-30 years), Middle Age (30 - 60 years), Elderly (60 -) age groups.
  • Vaccinated against influenza (flu) as a condition of employment.

  • Perform lab testing, specimen collection, according to protocol and communicate results to the appropriate department personnel and document in the medical record, inclusive of Point of Care Testing.
  • Perform vital signs according to protocol and communicate results to appropriate department personnel and document interventions in the medical record.
  • Perform visual acuity testing competently and report results to clinical nurse and ED attending.
  • Perform oxygen saturation testing competently and report results to clinical nurse and ED attending.
