JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) of the Emergency Department supports the Nurse Manager in overseeing daily clinical operations, ensuring high-quality patient care, and fostering a safe, efficient, and collaborative environment. This role combines leadership, clinical expertise, and operational oversight to maintain excellence in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS : · Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the mission and vision of the organization. · Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures. · Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs). · Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time. · Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate. GENERAL SKILLS: · Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. · Additional languages preferred. · Strong written and verbal skills. · Basic Computer Skills WORKING CONDITIONS: · General environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels. · May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights. · May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms. · May be required to change from one task to another or different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. · Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. · May be scheduled as needed including overtime. JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: · Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care. · Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients and the general patient population. · Uses triage process to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients. Accurately assigns triage categories. · Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. · Ability to monitor hemodynamic status of patients and correctly interpret the results · Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias and carries out appropriate treatments as ordered. · Ability to perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory’s and the patient care unit’s policies and procedures. · Ability to interpret the results of waived tests; takes appropriate action on waived test results. · Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition. · Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Prepares, hangs, monitors and discontinues IV fluids. · Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses and assessment of charges. · Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. · Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers. · Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patients served. Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group. · Interacts professionally with patient and family and involves patient and family in the formation of the plan of care. · Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; includes family in teaching, as appropriate. · Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. · Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards. · Assists in cost containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment. · Provides resource information to other staff. · Demonstrates the ability to assist physicians with procedures in the Emergency Department. · Supervises employees; allocates and monitors work of others; leads one or more employees performing similar work. · Orients new employees to the Emergency Department. · Maintains and participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of performance improvement indicators to improve patient outcomes and the work environment. · Cooperates with problem solving with other healthcare team members related to management of clinical care area. Additional Duties as Management staff: Clinical Leadership Provide direct supervision, guidance, and support to nursing staff during assigned shifts. Serve as a clinical resource for complex patient care situations. Promote evidence-based practice and adherence to clinical standards. Assist with triage oversight and patient flow management to reduce wait times and improve throughput. Operational Management Support daily staffing assignments, schedule adjustments, and workload distribution. Monitor department metrics such as wait times, LWBS (left without being seen), and patient satisfaction. Participate in departmental planning, quality improvement initiatives, and policy development. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (DMV, CMS, state regulations). Staff Development & Engagement Mentor and coach nursing staff to promote professional growth. Assist with onboarding, training, and competency validation for new hires. Provide constructive feedback and participate in performance evaluations. Foster a positive, team-oriented culture thatprioritizes communication and collaboration. Patient Safety & Quality Promote a culture of safety by identifying risks and supporting corrective actions. Participate in incident reviews, root-cause analyses, and quality improvement projects. Ensure proper documentation, medication safety, and adherence to infection-prevention protocols. Administrative Duties Assist with supply management, equipment readiness, and resource allocation. Support budget awareness and cost-effective decision-making. Represent the department in meetings when the Nurse Manager is unavailable. Maintain accurate records and contribute to departmental reports. Create Staffing Schedules Responsible for nursing coverage in the Er whenever there are unexpected absences -finding coverage and be aware their own schedule may need to be adjusted to cover shifts. Requirements EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: · Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with three (3) years registered nurse experience, and two (2) years of critical care or emergency nursing experience. · Current Registered Nurse Licensure in the State of Georgia. · Experience as Charge Nurse or other leadership role. · Active American Heart Association BLS certification within 30 days of hire. · Active American Heart Association ACLS & PALS certification with three (3) months of hire. · BSN Preferred · CEN or CERN 2 Plus preferred · TNCC Preferred
