About The Position

The Department of Economics at SJSU offers classes leading to both graduate and undergraduate degrees. At the undergraduate level, we offer both bachelor of arts and bachelor of sciences degrees, as well as an economics minor. At the graduate level, we offer an MA program in Economics, with an optional concentration in Applied Economics. For more information see: https://www.sjsu.edu/economics/ We invite applications for a part-time instructor who is qualified for and enthusiastic about teaching lower and upper division undergraduate courses, and/or graduate courses. Instructors prepare and teach their classes using modern pedagogical techniques, are available to assist students outside of class during regularly scheduled office hours, and to respond to reasonable student requests via email outside of class and office hours. ● Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity–including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation–through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement. ● Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). ● All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in economics is required to teach lower division courses, while a Ph.D. in economics is required to teach upper division and graduate courses. Degrees outside of economics but in closely related fields will be considered.
  • Knowledge of the subject matter of the course to which the individual is assigned.
  • Ability to instruct and evaluate adult learners.
  • Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.
  • Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.

Responsibilities
