About The Position

This position performs advanced level work conducting economic research under the limited supervision of the Economic Consultant – SES in the Economic Research Analysis Section, Occupational Analysis team. Incumbent may collect and process economic and statistical data using econometric and sampling techniques. Work requires applying a logical or scientific understanding of business practices and procedures to analyze and resolve problems of a specialized or professional nature in a particular field, or in a wide range of applications. The Economic Analyst is a member of the Economic Research and Analysis team in the Bureau of Workforce Statistics and Economic Research (WSER), Division of Workforce Services. This position conducts economic, demographic, and employment research and analysis using programming, model building, statistics and regression techniques. They contribute to projects and assignments as part of project teams, ensuring integrity, timely, accurate and quality delivery while coordinating and supporting the project’s team. They use strong relationship and communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams, agency partners and internal and external customers. The Economic Analyst supports WSER research projects that inform the public about the economic health of the State of Florida. Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of economic theory, principles, terminology and techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistics.
  • Advanced knowledge of data collection principles and methods.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data using statistics and analytical software packages, such as R, Tableau, Python, IMPLAN or SQL.
  • Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents and other written materials.
  • Ability to conduct fact-finding research.
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative when appropriate.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Duties and responsibilities of this position must be performed at the official work site of the Department.
  • May be required to travel.
  • As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or related Social Science.
  • One year of analysis experience in a research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts economic research studies and analysis, compiles economic data for various assignments, and distributes and/or presents information to the public.
  • Keeps up to date on existing and new resources relevant to their responsibilities, including but not limited to data sources, methodologies, research findings, and software tools. Actively follows current events and policy debates pertinent to national, state, and local labor markets.
  • Assists in building and analyzing economic, demographic, and employment data using spreadsheets, programming, and statistical modeling.
  • Prepares written analyses, reports, data visualizations and presentations for use both internal and external customers.
  • Completes projects and assignments individually or as team member. Ensures integrity, accuracy, and the timely completion of work and the delivery of quality work while supporting the team’s projects. Takes initiative to propose relevant project ideas and complete, if approved.
  • Helps to synthesize large amounts of qualitative and quantitative data to identify critical insights and explain in simplified language.
  • Maintains detailed documentation, methodologies, coding notation and information sources utilized during the performance of all analytical tasks. Produces outcome reports for all completed projects
