About The Position

Responsible for a variety of technical duties necessary to the acquisition of echocardiographic examinations and maintenance of the normal operation of the adult echocardiography laboratory. Cardiac sonographers independently perform or assist the licensed practitioner in the completion of various cardiac imaging procedures. Sonographers prepare, administer and document activities related to ultrasound enhancing agents in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or lawful institutional policy. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in their assigned department .

Requirements

  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) as a sonographer or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification and Adult Echocardiography: ARDMS (AE) or CCI credential.
  • Minimum of 5 years - required
  • Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Related Field of Study (Required)
  • Minimum of 5 years-Related work experience (Required)
  • Adult Echocardiography - ARDMS or CCIARDMS or CCI

Responsibilities

  • Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
  • Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
  • Preparing and/or administering, as applicable, medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable.
  • Educating and monitoring students and other health care providers.
  • Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
  • Preparing and/or administering ultrasound enhancing agents through new or existing vascular access site in accordance with ASE guidelines for appropriate use.
  • Communicates abnormal and unexpected findings with the provider to prioritize the need for additional testing or urgency of care with the licensed provider.
  • Collaborating with a licensed practitioner in the performance of sonographic interventional procedures.
  • Ensuring equipment parameters for diagnostic and interventional procedures are of optimal technical and administrative quality as requested by a licensed practitioner.
  • Performing diagnostic, interventional, sonographic procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner or during appropriate educational activities.
  • Demonstrates commitment to department and organizational priorities.
  • Has significant experience in modality and performs all routine and complex job activities independently.
  • Participates in modality quality or process improvement activities.
  • Assists in approved research activities.
  • Assist with complex structural heart procedures
  • Participate in requirements for ICAEL accreditations.
  • Requires little or no direction in the execution of job duties and can resolve most routine and complex issues successfully.
  • May be assigned lead technologist responsibilities and/or may be assigned responsibilities for coordinating specific programs.
  • Identifies areas for improvement and provides leadership to support process improvement activities.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining internal training programs and technical instruction of echocardiographic techniques.
  • Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
