As an integral part of the Department, the Echo Tech is responsible for performing multiple diagnostic non-invasive Cardiology procedures. This includes performing technically adequate Echocardiography according to policy and procedure, working with Echo Cardiologists and Supervisors to ensure high quality diagnostic images, and assisting Anesthesiologists and Cardiologists with Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) in the OR, Intensive Care Units, and Cath Lab. The role also involves assisting Cardiologists with Intra Cardiac Echocardiography (ICE) in the Cath Lab. The Echo Tech participates in after-hours standby and call-back rotations, responds to call-back requests promptly, and reports critical values to Attending Cardiologists. Responsibilities extend to preparing accurate charge documents, maintaining patient records, documenting studies, properly using and cleaning laboratory equipment including TEE probes, and maintaining a clean work area. The technician must exercise sound judgment, consult with supervisors and physicians when necessary, function as a patient advocate, and educate patients/families about procedures. Professional growth through continuing education is expected. The role also involves assisting with patient transportation or clerical functions and participating in department Performance Improvement projects, while demonstrating care appropriate to age-related needs and supporting customer satisfaction.
