About The Position

This is a non-exempt position. Short Notice position is an on-call role, and applicants must be prepared to report to work within one hour of receiving notification. This position is responsible for the USDA food service program for 10-60 children ages three through five, enrolled in the Head Start center. Overall supervision of the kitchen, including food ordering, records production, safety and sanitation.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Requires a valid State Driver’s License and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance and maintaining throughout employment.
  • Requires possession of or ability to obtain a First Aid/CPR Certification within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Requires possession of or ability to obtain a Food Handler’s permit, TB Test, and Health Clearance within ten (10) days of employment.
  • Requires successful clearance of an extensive Criminal History Background Inquiry that indicates no conviction(s) of crimes involving a child or other serious offenses. Continued employment is contingent upon clearance on an on-going basis.
  • Requires having maintained a substance free lifestyle for the last year (1) and continue maintaining during employment, and be willing to sign and adhere to the Tribes Substance Abuse Policy and the Head Start’s Healthy Lifestyle Policy in addition to submitting to program testing procedures.
  • Requires the ability to oversee the implementation of family-style service of meal(s) for 10 to 60 children on any given day.
  • Requires ability and skill to prepare nutritious and palatable meals for the children according to Head Start performance standards and USDA requirements and approved menus.
  • Requires ability to prepare meals for parent and community events as assigned by supervisor.
  • Requires ability to order food and kitchen supplies while maintaining an inventory of all food & other supplies for the kitchen.
  • Requires ability to prepare, maintain, and complete daily and monthly records as required by USDA and Head Start guidance.
  • Requires ability to maintain standards of sanitation and cleanliness in handling of food.
  • Requires ability to maintain the kitchen area and equipment for safety and health conditions throughout year.
  • Requires ability to assist with nutritional assessment of children.
  • Requires ability to attend training, workshops, and courses related to the position as assigned and approved by supervisor.
  • Requires ability to provide janitorial services to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
  • Requires ability to maintain STRICT confidentiality with program information and sign an oath of confidentiality.
  • Requires ability to provide nutrition education to staff, students, and parents on a continual basis.
  • Requires ability to incorporate cultural foods into the Food Service Program.
  • Requires ability to perform various janitorial duties to ensure a safe and sanitary environment
  • Requires experience that demonstrates the ability to make mathematical computations accurately and keep routine written records.
  • Requires experience reflecting the ability to cook and order supplies for large groups of people.
  • Requires experience reflecting the ability to plan meals that are nutritious to children according to Head Start Food Service Criteria, performance standards, and USDA-CCFP and SPI requirements.
  • Requires experience reflecting the ability to supervise cooking operations and kitchen staff.
  • Requires demonstrated experience with monitoring and auditing reports for compliance review.

Responsibilities
