An Earthwork Operator is responsible for operating heavy construction equipment to perform grading, excavation, and material placement in accordance with project specifications. This position requires skill, precision, and a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity on construction or rail/industrial job sites. Responsible for operating heavy equipment to support rail track construction projects.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred
Minimum 2-4 years of experience operating heavy grading equipment
Proven ability to operate equipment safely and accurately
Knowledge of construction site safety practices and regulations
Ability to read and understand grade stakes, plans, and drawings
Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
Skilled operation of heavy equipment
Strong hand-eye coordination and depth perception
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Effective communication skills
Ability to work in varying weather conditions
Strong safety awareness and judgment
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with the typical problems that occur in track construction.
Certification required if operating on track controlled by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).

Nice To Haves

Previous experience with rail construction equipment a plus.
A CDL would be a plus.

Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment such as motor graders, bulldozers, loaders, excavators, and other grading equipment safely and efficiently
Perform fine and rough grading according to plans, specifications, and supervisor direction
Read and interpret grade stakes, blueprints, and job specifications
Maintain proper slopes, drainage, and elevations
Conduct daily equipment inspections and complete required documentation
Perform basic equipment maintenance (lubrication, cleaning, minor adjustments)
Communicate effectively with supervisors, ground personnel, and other operators
Follow all company policies, OSHA regulations, and site-specific safety requirements
Identify hazards and report unsafe conditions immediately
Assist with other job site duties as assigned when not operating equipment
