About The Position

The Early Learning Advocate will provide specialized instruction and educational support to infants, toddlers, and preschool age children in the least restrictive environment to promote development in areas of communication, gross motor, fine motor, personal-social, and problem-solving skills. This position offers technical support to appropriate parent/guardians and/or teachers through supplemental support such as classroom observations, modeling, collaboration, and introduction of developmentally appropriate strategies or tools. The Early Learning Advocate will work closely with the Disabilities Mental Health Manager to assist with early identification, intervention, child find, screenings, and parental training. The Early Learning Advocate will regularly meet with parents/guardians and appropriate teaching staff to provide developmentally appropriate intervention under the direction of the child's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Developmental Screener results. Collects and assembles monthly statistics for annual and biennial reports.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • General experience related to Early Childhood Education, Early Intervention, or Developmental Support Services.
  • Must possess a First Aid/CPR/Food Handlers Card or ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
  • Must have no history of child abuse or neglect.
  • Must possess required training certificates within one week of hire.
  • Required to pass pre-employment background check and fingerprint check.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
  • Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Knowledge of Yakama Nation traditions, culture, reservation, and ceded areas.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development, developmental delays, and appropriate intervention strategies.
  • Understanding of the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3) and its role in early identification and planning.
  • Knowledge and general understanding of a child's needs and development.
  • Knowledgeable on Federal IDEA Part C and Section 504 Rehabilitation Act.
  • Knowledge on Family Education Rights and Privacy Act Law.
  • Knowledge on basic principles of Special Education Policies.
  • Skills in organizing, prioritizing, and planning work activities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with parents/guardians and/or teachers with sympathy and patience.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and materials properly.
  • Ability to follow Personal Policies Manual of the Yakama Nation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work in collaboration with team members.
  • Ability to exercise and apply patience, sensitivity, and understanding when working with children with disabilities and parent/guardians.
  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Receptive to new ideas, strategies, and approaches to early childhood support.
  • Maintains a high standard of professionalism and ethical behavior in all interactions.
  • Exhibits strong organizational and time-management skills to balance rotating schedules, documentation, and outreach.

  • Ability to exercise patience, sensitivity, and understanding when working with children with disabilities and their families.

Nice To Haves

  • A. degree in Early Childhood Studies, Education, Social Work, or closely related field.

Responsibilities

  • Provides supplemental developmental services based on a child's IEP, IFSP, or ASQ results to promote growth in communication, fine motor, gross motor, personal-social, and problem-solving.
  • Delivers services in a variety of settings including family homes, childcare centers, Head Start classrooms, school environments, or virtual platforms.
  • Arranges or provides transportation for children and families pursuant to their IFSP or IEP.
  • Provides developmentally appropriate educational activities in collaboration with Youth Development Coordinator and appropriate teaching staff.
  • Responds to new caseload as assigned.
  • Follows a rotating schedule to address emerging student or parent/guardian needs ensuring equitable service delivery.
  • Provides instruction to parents on their child's disability or developmental delay.
  • Educates parents on their Parental Rights when a child enters a classroom.
  • Administers and scores developmental screeners; utilized the data to initiate proper referrals for infants and toddlers to the Disabilities Mental Health Manager in accordance with state and Federal IDEA Part C.
  • Provides accommodation or individualization pursuant to the IEP, IFSP, or Developmental Screeners.
  • Secures parent participation for socializations, trainings, and/or parent trainings.
  • Provides educational activities to each child in areas of communication, fine motor, gross motor, personal-social, and problem-solving skills to reinforce instructional objectives pursuant to their IFSP, IEP, or Developmental Screener results to promote developmental growth.
  • Participates in Child Find Events, Family Socializations, and community outreach activities to promote early identification and program visibility.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of services, progress notes, family contacts, and outreach activities in accordance with program standards.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion in all work activities and maintains a positive, supportive presence in the classroom and community.
  • Participates in training, student field trips, socialization events.
  • Abide by Yakama Nation Rules, Regulation, and Personnel Policies and Procedures.
