The Parent-Child Educator role supports parents of toddlers in both classroom and home settings by facilitating parent-child classes once a week and conducting weekly home visits. Services promote routines, social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of young children using a developmentally appropriate curriculum approved by the Early Head Start program. This role is also a key partner with Hollyridge Center ensuring an inclusive environment for both programs. Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Early Childhood
  • Must have training and/or experience focused on infant/toddler development
  • Must have concern for and understanding of low-income people
  • Must be aware and sensitive to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) related to free appropriate education to all children with disabilities identified as needing special education and related services
  • Must believe that such children can benefit from inclusion in a regular classroom setting
  • Ability to pass State & Federal Background Checks (prior to hire date)
  • Valid Washington Stat Driver’s License
  • Current auto insurance and reliable transportation
  • Family Advocate Certification (within 18 months of employment)
  • First Aide/CPR certification (within 90 days of employment)
  • Food Worker Permit (within 90 days of employment)
  • Initial physical exam (within 90 days of employment)
  • Tuberculosis (TB) Testing (upon employment and before contact with children, testing done before hire will not be recognized)
  • Current Immunizations per Washington Administrative Code (can be obtained upon hire)
  • Be able to physically match the activity level of an infant, toddler, and/or preschool aged child.
  • Position requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, twisting, and bending
  • Must be able to get down on the child’s eye level and floor
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Simple grasping and hand manipulation required as well as reaching above and below shoulder level
  • Must be able to withstand exposure to noise in a classroom setting
  • Must be able to build secure, nurturing relationships with children and families
  • Must be able to exhibit regular attendance.
  • Conducts business and performs responsibilities with honesty, empathy, and integrity in alignment with KCR Code of Ethics.
  • Maintain confidentially of all KCR participants and staff in accordance with KCR and ELFS polies for Personally Identifiable Information and Data protections.
  • Demonstration of service delivery that aligns with KCR Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
  • Proactively takes appropriate steps to maintain a safe, clean, healthy, and professional working environment, seeks guidance from supervision/management when there are questions.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to and accepts assignments from the Home Based Site Supervisor and/or Child Development Manager.
  • Facilitate and plan for Parent Child Education weekly classes.
  • Conduct weekly home visits for each family on caseload.
  • Implementation of Child Development, Family, and Health Services for each family on caseload.
  • Ensure compliance with KCR Polices & Procedures, Head Start Performance Standards, federal & state regulations, and Washington Administrative Code for Child Care Licensing.
  • Ensure implementation of KCR Early Learning and Family Services (ELFS) written curriculum plan including used of approved developmentally appropriate curriculum with fidelity and individualized instructions for each child.
  • Maintain recordkeeping and reporting systems to ensure accurate information, with timely completion and follow up. Daily web based data entry.
  • Maintain timelines for screenings, ongoing assessments, health requirements, family goals, child transitions, and other time sensitive requirements.
