About The Position

Self Help, Inc. is currently looking for an energetic and engaging Home Visitor to join our Early Head Start Team. Agency Profile Self Help, Inc. is a nonprofit Community Action Agency (CAA) created to help families and individuals stabilize and secure their lives through education, strategic assistance, and building opportunities in their communities. We provide a range of services for families and households across Southeastern Massachusetts. Job Summary The Self Help Inc. Early Head Start Home Visitor implements a home-based parenting curriculum providing case management, resources, and educational activities during home visits to pregnant woman and families with children under the age of three years old.

Requirements

  • Experience working with families with infants/toddlers
  • Commitment to community based work
  • Must have reliable transportation, current driver’s license, and a willingness to travel
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • EEC Background Check required
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Working knowledge of computers
  • Flexibility of hours required
  • Associates Degree or CDA in Early Childhood Development required; or a willingness to complete the CDA or required course work within 18 months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a Bachelor’s degree in related field with Early Childhood course work a plus
  • Infant/Toddler EEC Certification a plus
  • Knowledge of community resources a plus
  • Knowledge or experience with Head Start or Early Head Start preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides weekly 90-minute home visits and case management to pregnant women and families with children under three years of age and implements a research-based parenting curriculum- Parents As Teachers.
  • Documents and enters child observations in a timely manner into the program assessment tool, Teachers Strategies Gold
  • Obtains health, nutrition, and development screening of all children enrolled within the first 45 days of the program and shares all information with families.
  • Partners with families to develop meaningful family self-sufficiency and child development goals and tracks completion of goals.
  • Enters all child/family data into the program database (Child Plus)
  • Facilitates Socialization Groups with enrolled families including planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities
  • Supports program outreach/recruitment activities to ensure all eligible families have access to services
  • Collaborates with all Self Help EHS Team members and outside collaterals in a professional manner
  • Ensures all Early Head Start Performance Standards are met
  • Attend all required meetings, including trainings, professional development, coaching and supervision.
