How this role contributes to the Y’s mission: As a Y Head Start Family Home Visitor, you will provide child development services, social services, health services, parent support and parent involvement services to families including home visits, socializations, advocacy and crisis intervention in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards, Y of Central Maryland Child Care Philosophy and local licensing regulations. You will implement a family centered approach to assist families to build on their strengths and develop family partnership agreements to support families in identifying their concerns, priorities, and resources. You will provide resources on child development, parenting education and family support on home visits to families of infants/toddlers and pregnant women. You will conduct developmental screenings and ongoing assessments of infants and toddlers to determine motor, language, social, cognitive and emotional skills and will develops an individual learning plan for each child with parental assistance. As a Y Head Start Family Home Visitor, you’ll contribute to the Y and to the broader community we serve by working with our littlest participants and their families who are economically disadvantaged and help them prepare for success in school and life. This work is right for you if you have:• An interest in the well-being and education of young children, enthusiasm, patience, good humor, good judgment and a good spirit • At minimum of 2 years prior experience working with children and families in a human service setting • The ability to clearly communicate and effectively listen to children, parents/guardians, members, and other Y associates • The desire to problem solve, handle crisis, and work with families and children of various cultures from low-income backgrounds • A bachelors or associates degree in child development, education, social sciences or related field All Y associates agree to abide by The Code of Conduct with Youth that sets clear expectations for associates and volunteers to ensure a safe and respectful environment for young people. It emphasizes treating youth with respect and fairness, avoiding inappropriate physical or verbal interactions, and adhering to established standards of affection. The policy strictly prohibits any form of abuse, bullying, or harassment and mandates the reporting of suspected mistreatment. Additionally, associates and volunteers must complete training on child abuse prevention and comply with legal reporting requirements to safeguard youth.
